Estate Sale Questions

An estate sale is basically a garage sale on steroids. Garage sales are great if you want to sell some items and make a few hundred bucks over a weekend.

Estate sales are used for when you want to sell all (or almost all) of the contents of a home. Estate sales are typically utilized when a loved one passes and you inherit a home, or if you need to downsize homes and need to sell a lot of big items quickly.

Our Legacy Sale is simply a comprehensive and professional version of a traditional estate sale. Estate sales typically aren’t setup or managed very well (even by other estate sale companies), so we sought after to change that.

We are truly accountable to you through our open door policy, our certified appraiser ensures high-ticket items are valued appropriately and you have full transparency into your sale’s profits through our completely digital point-of-sale system. Most other estate sale companies require that you stay out of the home during the process, doesn’t appraise items correctly, won’t advertise your sale and has a “cash only” policy, which makes accounting more challenging.

There are NO item minimums or item limits in order for True Legacy to service your estate sale. Even if you only have five items, give us a call.

Your family has access to your home throughout the entire process, and is encouraged to walk through the home before and after the sale to see the entire contents of the home laid out and organized, to see if there’s anything else you want to keep. Many families discover heirlooms that were missed during their original pass through the home.

Yes. After your estate sale is completed and the vast majority of items are sold and out of the home, we use trash removal services and our partnerships with the Salvation Army to donate any other items that remain. Your home will be completely empty and left broom clean.

Yes. We have our own proprietary list of over 3,000 professional estate sale shoppers in San Diego that we market your sale to. This is in addition to advertising the sale on estatesales.net, Craigslist and using strategically places street signage to drive local traffic to your sale.

Estate sales are not reserved just for mansions with lots of high-end items. We work with homes of any size, in any area (within our service area) with any amount or value of personal property. So, if you have a home with a lot of stuff in it, you have enough for an estate sale.

Because of our vast experience of managing estate sales throughout San Diego County, we know what prices shoppers are willing to pay for everything from furniture, to antiques, collectibles, clothing and knick knacks.

We also utilize a certified appraiser at all of our sales to ensure our pricing meets the current market prices. However, it’s important to remember that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

All estate sales are professionally staffed with trained associates to ensure that we have eyes on your valuables throughout the entire sale. We also stage and organize the sale so that high-ticket items are harder to access and requires one of our staff to hand the item to a potential buyer.

After your sale is completed, we pull the information from our digital point-of-sale system, do a final accounting check and provide you with a detailed report outlining total gross sales and transaction volume, so you know exactly what was sold and at what price, and how much is owed to you.

In most cases, we only need four days with a multi-person staff to completely organize, stage and price all the contents of your home. We typically start staging on Tuesdays and complete the setup on Friday, and run the sale on Saturday and Sunday.

Of course. While most other estate sale companies require the family to “turn over the keys” to the home once they begin working and prevent you from going back through the home, we encourage you and your family members to tour the home to see if we uncovered any other items that you may want to keep before the sale starts. You’ll have another opportunity to go through the home after the sale.

After the sale, we continue to work to clean out the home, make donations, clean the home and do a final accounting check. You typically will receive your check within two weeks of the completion of the sale.

We are typically completely booked two to three weeks into the future, but you can ask about specific availability during your free consult with us.
